2016 Cross Country

Year 6 children demonstrate our school's "Three Es" by showing how effort and expectation bring about excellence..

On Wednesday 23rd March, Whitefriars Junior School held their annual Cross Country event. For Year 6 children it was their last chance to try their best to beat their previous places and triumph in success. Many pupils improved in fitness and perseverance, there was also lots of signs of encouragement.

The winners of the 2016 Year 6 races were:

Boys      1st Joel Nottage, 2nd Connor Saunders, 3rd Lucas Denny

Girls       1st Anya Owen, 2nd Trinity Boyes, 3rd Shamfa Beckford

Boys winner, Joel who had also represented Whitefriars in the inter-school competition earlier in the day, said, "I had mixed emotions as I knew the track as I did it this morning but it was still challenging."

Connor found the race tough but was spurred on by  encouragement from Mrs Slater, while Lucas also admitted it was tough being against two brilliant runners but added, "I like a challenge!

Girls winner Anya also won last years event but conceded that the race was tiring. After the race Trinity said, " I found it hard but I knew I could do it if I put my mind to it." She also thanked Anya for her encouragement. Shamfa also felt the encouragement from children and staff and was pleased with her own performance.

Overall,  the students thought it was a great experience and because it was their last, definitely one to remember.
