We value the teaching of languages as it gives children the opportunity to gain proficiency at an earlier age and, in an increasingly globalised world, it is important to learn about other cultures and languages that are different to our own.
We employ our own specialist teacher. We teach French from Year 2 to Year 6. The planning overview can be found below. French in Year 2 is all about introducing them to the French language through songs, games and other simple activities while they are curious and enthusiastic about learning new things. The strong oral content helps with their communication skills in all areas of the curriculum too.
We are fully aware, from conversations with our local secondary schools, that children may learn Spanish or German rather then French during Key Stage 3. With this in mind, and following advice from KS3 language teachers, we give Year 6 children an introduction to German and Spanish in readiness for their transition to secondary.
