New 'always active' uniform for September 2026.
Our School Council initiated this project in the summer of 2025 - a genuine, child-initiated project. They fed back information from the other children that they and parents wanted to send children into school in their PE kit on PE days as it would be convenient. It was about this time that the Youth Sport Trust was promoting 'always active' school uniforms in school. - PE kit as uniform. As we are a Platinum Sports Award holder, we value being active and thought this idea would be worth looking into. Our School Council were very excited about this idea so we put this to our governing body, who agreed. We then consulted with parents in the autumn 2025 - nearly 90% of 311 parents, who responded, were very keen on having an 'always active' sports uniform too! Parents pointed out that most adults are allowed to wear comfortable clothes and trainers in work nowadays so children, who are running around and playing, should have the same opportunity.
We invited parents to join a working party to look into options and examples. Following feedback from the consultation, it was very important that the uniform remained smart (and it would look good walking to and from school/not flimsy) and there should be good availability of cheaper unbranded options to keep the costs down in these expensive times.
Parents of existing children would not have to buy new uniform until they needed to replace items and they will have to be bought from the new uniform range.
New children to the school will have the new uniform.
Advantages:
The working party chose navy blue for the base colour as it is easier to source an unbranded alternative than the royal blue. We didn't want to lose the royal blue so made sure this was kept in the logo. Navy blue was a feature of previous uniforms/PE kits.
Parents had said that they would be happy if we did not continue with the white polo-shirt as this was hard to keep white. It was decided to make the most of another colour in our logo and have more red.
We are pleased with the results. Most importantly, the children are too!
